Estes signs minor league contract


Yahoo Sports is reporting that 36 year old left handed P Shawn Estes has signed a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals. Estes best year was 1997, when he went 19-5 with San Francisco. He was 15-8 with Colorado in 2004. Since then he is 9-12 in 31 games with a 4.68 ERA.

2b Adam Kennedy headed to Nationals


According to William Ladson’s twitter page, 2b Adam Kennedy has agreed to a deal with the Nationals. Terms were not disclosed.  Kennedy had 529 AB/65R/11HR/63RBI/20SB for Oakland in 2009. He should step right in and be the Nationals starting 2b.

RHP Tyler Walker Joins the Nats


RHP Tyler Walker has agreed in principle to sign with the Washington Nations to a one year deal, ESPN.com reports.  The 33 year old pitcher signed a deal that will pay him $650,000 should he suit up and play for the Nats, or $120,000 if he is in the Minors.  Walker is expected to compete for a spot in the bullpen.  To make room for Walker, the Nationals designated Marco Estrada for assignment.

Nats baffle Winn with interest

Bye Bye Nick Johnson


As if anyone needs to feel sorry for him.  Nick Johnson has signed a deal to go to the New York Yankees, the place where his career began.  This will be a one year deal worth 5.5 million, which likely means Johnny Daemon will be allowed to walk and grow out his hair and beard.

Ivan Rodriguez to the Nationals


Catcher Ivan Rodriguez has signed on with the Washington Nationals.  It is a 2-year deal worth $6 million.  It will be interesting to see what the extent of his use will be.   Jesus Flores is expected to rotate shifts with Rodriguez, despite the fact that Rodriguez has stated that he wants to be the regular guy.  There is still plenty of time between now and spring training, so you can imagine that there will be plenty of developments on this matter between now and then.
